Smeenk Grandparents’ visit to France: Part Trois (3) – The Sparkling Eiffel Tower

Written by Jenn

After dinner at Hippopotamus, we walked from the  Champs Elysees to the Eiffel Tower. We wanted to make it there for sunset and see it all lit up at night. I’ve seen the Eiffel tower a few times in my life, but it still moves me to walk under its arches and witness the grandeur of its metal frame illuminated under the night sky. Truly, a magical and awe-inspiring experience. I feel incredibly fortunate to have a handful of such unforgettable experiences with my family these past 2 years. Even more grateful now to share this with Grandma and Grandpa, as we’ve desired for a while to share with them our love for travel, away from the homogeneity and comfort of an all inclusive resort experience. We wanted to share with them the excitement of walking for hours to explore a new place, because for us, everything feels more tangible and alive by foot.

Below are photos of our time at the Eiffel Tower, along with a short video of its sparkling light show. Enjoy!

It’s nice that mom and dad could add France the list of countries they have toured, including Italy, Netherlands, Switzerland, Australia, New Zealand, Costa Rica, Mexico, Hawaii, California, eastern and western Canada, outside of the TWO all-inclusives they have been to.

    • Hi Patti,
Thanks for the comment. I am well aware that Mom and Dad have travelled outside of an all-inclusive experience to ALL those places you’ve mentioned above. In fact, Mom had shared her experience and impressions of their previous travels to Europe with me when she was here. I know that Mom has been to Italy with a tour group, and that both Mom and Dad have travelled with their daughters to New Zealand, Australia, and Costa Rica. In the post, I mention our desire to show them Europe outside of an all-inclusive because 1) Dad needed convincing coming to Europe to visit us, and 2) the most recent trip they took was an all-inclusive. Make no mistake, I enjoy and appreciate the all in-clusive resorts, as we too have gone to two as a family in the past. So I have nothing against all-inclusives. Our desire to show them our favourite way to travel is just one way to share our life with them intimately – with joy, excitement, and wonder. Something that Brian has yearned for a while now. We are so grateful that they came to see us, and will have the fond memories to look back on together.

Thank you for posting the Eiffel video. Oh, how I wish I could stand there right now looking at it in person.
